ABSTRACT
The soils of municipal term of Alicún de las Torres
In these chapters from «Research on the Spa of Alicún de las
Torres» we will get into the understanding and description of the
soils which are located within the territory of the municipal term
Villanueva de las Torres, as this is the place where the spa we will
be studying is situated. In the first place, we will introduce the ge-
neral characteristics of the municipal area we have mentioned. Then,
our research will continue with a brief review of the factors that
determine the soils’ formation. Special attention will be given to the
geological factor, thus we will describe the different lithologies which
are closely related to the soils of the territory of this municipality. In
the next place, we will go through the processes that take part in the
formation and development of these oils. After this, we will describe
the main characteristics and properties following the rules used by
the FAO. Finally, the chapter concludes with a review of the uses
that these soils have nowadays.

1. GENERALIDADES
Como en las proximidades geográficas del Balneario de «Alicún
de las Torres», confluyen terrenos pertenecientes a distintos muni-
cipios, hemos centrado nuestro trabajo de suelos, en el municipio de
Villanueva de las Torres del que depende administrativamente el
balneario objeto de estudio.
El Municipio de Villanueva de las Torres y por lo tanto el Balnea-
rio «Alicún de las Torres», está situado al norte de la provincia de
Granada y se halla rodeado por los municipios de Dehesa de Guadix
al norte, Gorafe al este, Guadix y Fontelas al sur y por el de Pedro
Martínez al oeste. Dentro del municipio, el balneario está situado en
su borde oriental y muy próximo por lo tanto al de Gorafe, distando
32 kilómetros de Guadix, que es su Partido Judicial y 84 kilómetros
de Granada. El Municipio de Villanueva de las Torres posee una
