antibiótico, la adición de un tercero, la combinación con sales de Bi
logra la curación en la casi totalidad de los tratados (45).

En resumen, Warren y Marshall demostraron la patogenicidad
del Hp, rompiendo con las creencias tradicionales. Ambos eran in-
tuitivos. Marshall unía a estas cualidades valentía, sentido del hu-
mor y desparpajo para enfrentarse a situaciones inesperadas para
convencer a un auditorio escéptico. Sin entrar en valoraciones com-
parativas del grado de aportación de cada uno al descubrimiento, la
de Warren fue cualitativa y esencial. Sin embargo, sin el trabajo de
Marshall, sin su decisión valiente, tal vez poco responsable de auto-
inocularse y sin su continua y absoluta entrega a la causa del Hp,
dedicando todos sus esfuerzos, posiblemente la relación de la infec-
ción con las lesiones inflamatorias, con sus consecuencias de diag-
nóstico y tratamiento, no hubieran sido aceptadas por la comunidad
médica y científica.
