celona. Desde Figueres irradió la importancia de sus trabajos hasta mu-
chas partes del mundo y llegó a establecer los Laboratorios Norte de Es-
paña, que luego se denominarían Laboratorios Cusí, reconocidos interna-
cionalmente.

También, don Joaquín Cusí Furtunet fue un coleccionista impor-
tante, especialmente de libros y de objetos relacionados con la Farmacia y
la Medicina. Con las piezas interesantes de sus colecciones, y con la boti-
ca Antigua del Real Monasterio de Santa María La Mayor de Nájera (La
Rioja), constituyó el importante Museo Cusí, famoso en todo el mundo.

SUMMARY

The main objective of this monographic study goes to try to avoid
the forgetfulness, and to recognize as well as to thank the resolved effort
of a very vocational Spanish and Catalan, pharmacist, to find the more
active and more comfortable formulation medication for the patients.

Don Joaquín Cusí Furtunet centered his biggest interest in the
pharmaceutical investigation and in the technological analysis in order to
get: initially, masterful formulas of therapeutic principles, and later on,
pharmaceutical specialities that were prescribed as a safe drug, effective
medication and a pharmaceutical product of good quality.

And, in spite of the poor working conditions of the scientific
backwardness of those years, his task supposed a considerable advance in
that time, but even at the present time: some of the medicaments devel-
oped by him, continue being used today.

This studious, intelligent and imaginative pharmacist, character-
ized by his strong will and his perseverance in achieving professional
progress, began installing his first dispensing pharmacy shop in Figueres
(one town near to Girona), although many of his course partners made
their own in Barcelona (the most important city in Catalunyan). From
